One of our main aims when we started Commen was to continuously be better. And recently we’ve been applying this to our packaging and sustainability efforts.
That’s why from today all of our clothes will be sent out wrapped in acid-free, FSC certified tissue paper, complete with the Commen Crown printed in soy ink, rather than single-use plastic bags.
Then once you’re new running gear is nicely wrapped up in soybeans, we’re going to pop it into some corn.
Our new 100% compostable mailing bags (made from corn) are durable and waterproof so your clothes are super safe. They’re also reusable so you can send stuff back if you need to, and will be gone within 6 months of being composted. That’s compared to the 1000 years it takes for a standard plastic bag.
We’re not under any illusions that what we’re doing is saving the environment on its own, or even that it’s all we can do, but the only thing we’re against changing is our aim to continuously be better.
(We’re still waiting on our larger corn mailers, so for some orders of our larger items/multiple items they may be sent out in our recycled plastic mailers).
The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) is an organisation working to promote the practice of sustainable forestry worldwide. They make sure we have the option to choose environmentally friendly paper sourced in an socially responsible and economically sustainable manner.
Simply put, it’s more easily recyclable than petroleum based inks, and is created in a more eco-friendly manner with a smaller impact. And the way we see it, the more recyclable and renewable elements we can bring into Commen Athletics the better.
